Additional Laboratory Credit

  1. Areal Projectile Point Distribution Analysis and Recording Project (APPDAR)
    1. The purpose of APPDAR is to provide a standard format and system for documenting projectile points and similar hafted stone tools in private collections.

    2. PAAC participants actively working with APPDAR may now receive certification under the Laboratory Program.  Qualified participants may be certified as "Laboratory Trainee." Information on APPDAR may be obtained from a CAS Chapter Library or the State PAAC Coordinator.

    3. Prerequisite Courses:

      1. Introduction to Archaeology, CAS & PAAC (Scholar)
      2. Colorado Archaeology (Provisional Surveyor)
      3. Prehistoric Lithic Description and Analysis (Certified Surveyor I)

    4. Requirements:

      1. Read the APPDAR manual (on File in each CAS Chapter library and at OAHP in Denver).
      2. Complete a minimum of 40 hours work time with APPDAR, documented with a time sheet or voucher from an approved supervisor.  The manual must be followed closely.
      3. Write a 2-3 page paper describing the workings of APPDAR.
      4. The paper and time sheet or voucher from an approved supervisor must be sent to the State PAAC Coordinator.
      5. The PAAC Board will review the material for certification.

    5. Credit will be given for past work with APPDAR.  Participants must supply the State PAAC Coordinator with the documentation of APPDAR work experience.
